I appreciate your visit. My card share for this week for Brutus Monroe features many products from the March release. Can I just say, I am totally enamored by this release.

I made this card using the WRMK 1-2-3 Punchboard. This was a challenge to figure out and I'm not sure my directions are still quite right. I went through several proto-types. But here my basic instructions - please ensure you follow every carpenters golden rule "measure twice - cut once" - I say measure more.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "FS Thrive Elliot Light", serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">Start with a 7 5/8” square piece of cardstock. Using the 1-2-3 Envelope Punchboard and following the score mark for a 4” x 5” card size, make the envelope box but do not score on top and bottom. Then round the corners. Line up the rounded edge of the top in your paper trimmer at 6 ½” – this will be a little tricky, but I used a ruler lined up at 6 ½ vertically and then bumped the rounded corner up against the metal ruler. Cut the bottom off and set aside. Fold on your score lines and burnish. Cut a strip of card stock at 1 ¾” x 5 1/8 and score at 3/8” on both ends. Then trim off a hair from each end. I ultimately cut off 1/8” of each end. Then adhere this strip to the inside of your envelope box, butting the edge to the back. Do one side and then the other – this I found the easiest and ensured that the overall card will lay flat. Then take the bottom piece you cut off earlier and cut off sides and trim to your liking. Mine measures about 2 ¼ cutting off the rounded corner ¼” inch. You don’t have to do this, I personally don’t like the corner or rounded corner sticking up in the middle of the envelope. But, you do you, create your own ending. I also followed a really old video of Christopher Alan’s for how to use the 1-2-3 Punchboard to create a lining for envelope. But basically I made the same size as the base and then just trimmed off the sides and the bottom used that for my decorative panel. I added this before I adhered the inside cross bar and bottom part of the envelope on. Then decorate as you wish! I used strips of heavy acetate on the butterflies. If you want your sentiment to be directly on the card and not a separate element, stamp this first before adhering the bottom to the base.

Ultimately, I think once you get through one, making more will be super easy to do! I hope my card inspires you to try something new or different or maybe even old. I know I've had this punchboard for than 10 years and every time I use it I think to myself, why don't I use this more often?!
Melissa Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13229994616459515570noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9222347658990416198.post-909534731391566062024-03-12T05:59:00.003-04:002024-03-12T05:59:00.129-04:00Tuesday Morning Sketches #748
Hello! I'm back from sunny California. I was there visiting my kids for a week and it was wonderful. We enjoyed our time together doing this and that. Did a birthday celebration for my oldest son. And I finally had a good Mexican meal!

But now it's back home, catching up at work and my dog is irritated with me but happy to be in his own home and away from the "little girls" which are the ex-husband's chihuahuas.

Anyway, the latest sketch is up at Tuesday Morning Sketches and this one is a great one because it's way open. Great for building a scene. My card features dies and a stencil from Tonic Studios. The little stamps decorating the bowl are really old, from a company called Raisin Boat - I sure do miss them! And the frame die is from Pink & Main.

I bought the Creative Pastimes die set months ago and used it a few weeks ago on a card that had a yarn ball and knitting needles. Well the bowl is actually supposed to be a basket, but I stamped on it and then covered it in clear embossing powder so that it looks like a vintage glass bowl. When I got this set I put the whisk together right away because when I saw the set my mind right to that whisk having a dollop of cream on it. So this piece has been sitting on my table ever since. It was time to put it good use!

I do hope you'll join us at TMS. I hope everyone is doing well. The latest sketch is up at Tuesday Morning Sketches and although this may look a little challenging it's really an easy sketch. Remember, a shape is just a shape and it takes many forms. I kept my card true to the sketch but you are the creator of your art. You make this sketch work for you.

My card features A Walk on the Wildside from Tonic Studios. Originally this was released earlier this year in a Tonic Craft Kit that you could only get by subscription but Tonic Studios brought it back about a month or so ago for individual purchase.

The die set does have other critters such as a koala bear, sloth and alligator along with plants and flowers. It's a super cute set. There is a coordinating stamp set which is where I got the sentiment from. I just love it! I embossed it using gold embossing powder. The leaves are also from Tonic Studios that I picked up on sale. And I did use Shimmer Splash from Brutus Monroe in Gilded (gold). Oh the hexagons are from the Christmas Bauble kit and I used a Glitter Marker in Lemon Drizzle to just give the edges a bit of shine.

I do hope you'll join us at TMS and be sure to leave some love for the team!
Melissa Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13229994616459515570noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9222347658990416198.post-30834213278986694532024-03-01T08:00:00.001-05:002024-03-01T08:00:00.383-05:00Color My Heart Color Dare #590
Hello! It's time for another challenge at Birthstone Challenge. This challenge will run until April 15th. The birthstones are Aquamarine and Diamond and the twist is Birthday. This couldn't be more perfect for me than had I suggested this myself. My boys were born in March and my daughter in April so this is totally them. LOL

I love this card, too! What an amazing color! Then when that dried I stamped the flowers and added the foil reactive embossing powder and used the Silver Sketch foil in a few places on the background - it didn't work great but that was my fault. It was a little hard to see!

<span style="background-color: white; color: #283c46; font-family: -apple-system, system-ui, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol"; font-size: 16px;">I then stamped the birdhouse and colored it using Distress Oxide Inks in Hickory Smoke, Weathered Wood and Black Soot. I also stamped the flowers and colored using various shades of alcohol markers. I then used a foil transfer pen and more of the Silver Sketch foil for a bit more of added shine. Overall, I am really happy with this card. I think it turned out lovely.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #283c46; font-family: -apple-system, system-ui, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol"; font-size: 16px;">

Melissa Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13229994616459515570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9222347658990416198.post-80855671685221753712024-02-27T05:59:00.002-05:002024-02-27T05:59:00.145-05:00Tuesday Morning Sketches #746
Hello! Thank you for stopping by. I do appreciate your visit. The latest sketch is up at Tuesday Morning Sketches and I would really like you to think brushstrokes. You don't have to, but it could be a lot of fun.

My card features Embellishment Mousse from Tonic Studios lovely flowers and sentiment from Brutus Monroe. The card stock is Dove from Concord & 9th.

I started off with painting Embellishment mousse in gray and pink with a very stiff stencil brush. You know the kind, the one that looks like my Grandpa's shaving cream brush? Using this is what allowed for the brushstrokes and in person, this is so amazing and the pink looks pink instead of white.

I heat embossed the flowers with Raven embossing powder from Brutus Monroe and then colored then with the embellishment mousse by thinning it with water and painting. The leaves I colored with alcohol markers. The sentiment is from Super Sentimental also from Brutus Monroe.

The flowers are part of set called Smells Like Spring which is on the Retirement List. You can get the set and coordinating die set for $26.99!

I hope you'll join us at Tuesday Morning Sketches and be sure to leave the team some love!
Melissa Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13229994616459515570noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9222347658990416198.post-45813950286250462422024-02-21T10:00:00.000-05:002024-02-21T10:00:00.253-05:00Brutus Monroe - Let Your Light Shine
Hello! Firstly, I created the base layer by slathering on the Chroma glaze through the stencil. This took some time as the stencil is 4x4 and I'm using a 4x5.25 layer of card stock. After the first side dried I did the second side and set that aside dry. Then using various Distress Oxide inks I went about to create this beautifully ink blended background. Stamped the images onto the background and colored in using black marker to create the silhouettes. The birds are random dies. Then I finished off the card by foiling a sentiment from the Conversation Clippings with gold foil.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #283c46; font-family: -apple-system, system-ui, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol"; font-size: 16px;">

<span style="background-color: white; color: #283c46; font-family: -apple-system, system-ui, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol"; font-size: 16px;">Did you know that the Brutus Monroe has a great selection of Conversation Clippings and Card Panels that you can foil using Deco Foil and a heat source such as a laminator? But first I started with creating a background by painting stripes onto a piece of watercolor paper using Aqua Pigment in blue and then added some red to make purple. While that piece dried I went to work on creating the pocket. I made the shaker pocket by first heat embossing the sentiment onto the acetate, then scoring 1/4" along each edge. Folding on those score lines and really burnishing those edges. Once my background piece was dry, I cut it down and sealed it inside the pocket and added some sequins before sealing up the final edge. I also heat embossed the stamped images onto watercolor paper and did some super easy water coloring. Aqua Pigments mix beautifully for other color shades. Blue + Red = Purple and Yellow + Red = Orange. The bear I watercolored using Distress Ink in Frayed Burlap.

The picture below gets the sequins out of the way so you can see the sentiment. Thank you so much for stopping by. The sketch is up at Tuesday Morning Sketches and it's the first new sketch for 2024.

I am totally in love with my card! This card features items from an old Tonic Studios craft kit that I picked up on clearance. It came with this gorgeous stencil and some wonderful summer images. The frame is from iCrafter.

Isn't she lovely?! She is wonderful!! Let me tell you how I made this. I laid the stencil down onto some white card stock and used some Calypso Coral embellishment mousse over the stencil. This mousse goes on like icing on a cake. It's lovely. Then while I had the mousse out I colored some scrap pieces of white card stock and some vellum. I used the white cardstock that I colored to die cut the flower and the stripes. The vellum piece I die cut the top layer of the butterfly. I cut out the butterfly 3 times from vellum. The bottom layer I colored the antennae using a dark blue alcohol marker. The middle layer I colored using a dark peach color alcohol marker and the top layer, as mentioned, is colored using the mousse. The frame is cut from copper metallic card stock. The little square is a scrap white piece of card stock that was spritzed with Mica Mist - it was left over from another project.

Look at this dimension and gorgeous butterfly!! Thank you for stopping by. Our last revisited sketch is up at Tuesday Morning Sketches and this week's pick is Tammy's favorite pick. It's a sketch by me and I went super literal with it!

My project (not a card) features dies from Tonic Studios. I used the flowers from the Blooming Bouquet Box and Luxurious Leaves & Ornate Circle Die Set. I cut 3 of the large size and 2 of the small size and layered these up. I made some small rolled roses as filler. The bow is also from the Blooming Bouquet box. The bouquet wrap is from the fancy circle die. The shadow box I made myself following a YouTube tutorial. This was a lot fun to put together. The flowers look so pretty. Speaking of pretty... the beautiful young lady to the right of my project is my momma when she was 17. I'm going to make my her the actual Blooming Bouquet box for Mother's Day.

Well, I hope to see you over at the TMS blog to join in the fun. Leave the team some love!
Melissa Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13229994616459515570noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9222347658990416198.post-80411139235190663522024-02-02T09:26:00.003-05:002024-02-02T09:26:58.613-05:00Brutus Monroe - Salt & Pepper Valentine Treat Box
Hello! So, yes, I designed this box from top down.

Using my Scor-Buddy, I lined up the circle - this first score line is going to be crucial to help you keep everything going straight. Score at 7/8" inch. Rotate fully to score the opposite side at 7/8". Then rotate to do the middle score line at 1 1/2" inch, rotate again to score opposite side at 1 1/2".

You will then cut on the 7/8" inch side along the score line to the middle score line and notch it out like you see in my photo. I then cut a circle from the patterned paper that was slightly smaller than the 4" inch circle. I scored the paper to match the score lines on the white piece and then cut it apart cutting inside the score lines so that it is slightly smaller to layer on the white piece. I hope that makes sense. Then glue the sides middle flap in. I use Bearly Art glue for everything, but you can use tape if you prefer.

From here I made the box. I measured the inside rectangle of the box which is the top part of the lid and then reduced that measurement by 1/8" so that the bottom of the box fit inside the lid I made.

My finished sized bottom is 2 3/8" x 3". I cut out the notches (see photo) and then cut patterned paper to dress up the box front, back and sides. The front and back measure 2 1/2 by 2 3/4 and sides measure 5/8" x 2 3/4" glued the box together.

Once my box was done, I stamped the S&P stamp and cut out using another circle die and matted with a scallop die. Stamped the sentiment and trimmed it. Once you get the basic construction done, you can make these really quick. I used to make little treat boxes for my sister's students so this would be super easy to mass produce.

Products Used:

<span style="background-color: white; color: #283c46; font-family: -apple-system, system-ui, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol"; font-size: 16px;">BRU8692 BE Mine paper
<span style="background-color: white; color: #283c46; font-family: -apple-system, system-ui, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol"; font-size: 16px;">BRU8807 Salt & Pepper
<span style="background-color: white; color: #283c46; font-family: -apple-system, system-ui, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol"; font-size: 16px;">BRU2543 Raven Detail Ink
<span style="background-color: white; color: #283c46; font-family: -apple-system, system-ui, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol"; font-size: 16px;">BRU2524 Alabaster Pigment Ink
Melissa Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13229994616459515570noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9222347658990416198.post-13922040525503133092024-02-02T07:00:00.002-05:002024-02-02T07:00:00.155-05:00Color My Heart Color Dare #586
Hello! Welcome to my very first official post as an Inspiration Team member for Brutus Monroe. I am so thrilled to be on this team. The aesthetic of Brutus Monroe is very different from my own and this is such a great opportunity for me to learn and grow my art.

This sweet little project features the Salt & Pepper Dynamic Due which is the stamp of the month. It's a super cute little stamp that comes with a sentiment and some sprinkles. If you know me, you know I'm not into Valentine's Day but I did mention learning and growing and my monthly card traders group presented a challenge for twisted ribbon technique.

The challenge was to make a a double twisted ribbon but I couldn't grasp the concept no matter what I did! Thank you for stopping by, I appreciate your visit. The latest sketch is up at Tuesday Morning Sketches and this revisited sketch was Patti's pick. It's another great sketch by Debbie.

So I have some news! I've been picked to be on the Brutus Monroe Inspiration Team. Never in a million years did I think I'd be chosen for this team. So, of course, I have to play right away...

This card features a stamp from Safari set and Super Sentimental. Next card will have a crochet hook - that'll be more me! Anyway, I absolutely love the yarn balls in this die set. I started the card with a Kraft card base. Then I used a piece of decorative paper, also from Tonic Studios called Spring Meadows which matches the highly coveted Sea Salt Green Craft Perfect card stock (it's been sold out for months!). I did use Sea Salt Green for the matting layer and for the yarn. The knitting needles are cut from Brushed Black card stock from Spellbinders, the tag and sentiment are from Tonic Studio kit Delicate Decor gift box. The little stitched border piece is from Stitched Borders Piercing Dies set from Brutus Monroe.

I am so pleased with how this notecard turned out. I want to make more! Did you know it's almost easier to make two cards at once than just one at a time? Try it sometime!

I think one of my next projects with this set is a mini album. I thought it would be a great way to catalog projects either my sister or I made that we give as gifts. If it happens to be a favorite pattern, maybe adding a pocket to store the pattern in. Hmm....

Well, I hope to see you over at the TMS blog joining in. Leave the team some love!
Melissa Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13229994616459515570noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9222347658990416198.post-41070014726230568782024-01-19T07:00:00.044-05:002024-01-19T07:00:00.129-05:00Color My Heart Color Dare #584
Hello! I remember back in 80's to early 90's there were these watch bands that were reminiscent of jelly shoes. They were plastic and really fun! I die cut some of the cogs dies in white times 2 and layered those up and then added to the card base. I then used an ivory piece of cardstock to cut the watch band pieces. I used a metallic card stock to cut the watch pieces. The face is stamped. I die cut the flowers from a die set called Bouquets and Buttermilk. Then added some Nuvo Drops as close to Sundance as I can get.

This is a cute card to send to a friend. Thank you for stopping by! This week's revisited sketch is up at Tuesday Morning Sketches and this one is Debi's pick. I still didn't do the bokeh technique that I had in mind when I created this sketch, but I do love my card!

This card features the Creative Pastimes Die set from Tonic Studios. I cannot wait to share more cards made with this set! It's wonderful!! Balls of yarn, knitting needles, crochet hook, baking things - I love it.

I made the donuts using a small circle die, a decorative die that is a flower center for the icing. The chocolate chip cookies are made using circle die and stamp of dots from a stamp set from Tonic Studios that I couldn't find on the site so I'm guessing no longer available. The cupcake and sentiment is from the Creative Pastimes. The paper is from Sew Crafty kit which I've featured before.

I hope this inspires you and you'll join the team and I for this challenge.
Melissa Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13229994616459515570noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9222347658990416198.post-14142693957882969752024-01-05T07:00:00.001-05:002024-01-05T07:00:00.133-05:00Color My Heart Color Dare #582
Hello! And we're back! Break is over, holidays and vacations are winding down. Our first revisited sketch is up at Tuesday Morning Sketches and this one is Debbie's pick.

I took advantage of the stars and went literal with this sketch. I used star dies from Pink & Main, patterned paper and gold mirror card from Tonic Studios. The "cheers" sentiment is a die from Spellbinders. This was such a quick and easy card to put together.

It's so hard to photograph mirror card, but I guess this came out okay!

I thought this angle was going to be needed, but it wasn't afterall.

I hope you'll join us this week. So birthstones don't change, our leader decided we needed to add an optional theme. This takes the challenge up a notch!

I know I usually make art journal pages, but with this theme, I couldn't think of what to do with Garnet and/or Amethyst. I tried and tried and my brain just wouldn't open up to that kind of creativity. But I did need a new home card, so I went that route.

I am featuring an older Tonic Craft Kit that you have seen me use before. This time I die cut the window and then stamped the bricks using Lumberjack Plaid Distress Oxide ink (perfect shade of garnet). Then I cut the same size card in black and lined up the window detail. This made it is so easy to have this go together well. Using some metallic card I die cut/debossed the "welcome" and "home" signs. The made the window box by cutting a strip of card stock and then angling the edges. I filled it with little purple (amethyst) flowers. This is a really easy card and I think perfect to welcome someone to their new home.

I wish you a very Happy New Year and hope that your 2024 is off to a great start! My great-grandmother always used to say that how you spend the 1st day of the new year says how you'll spend the rest of the year. So I plan to eat well, craft a lot and just love my family and friends. And take a walk!
Melissa Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13229994616459515570noreply@blogger.com0
