Tuesday Morning Sketches #452

Hello!  Thank you for stopping by. The newest sketch is up at Tuesday Morning Sketches and this one is by Debbie.  I had a lot of fun with this sketch and I hope you will join us.

My card features stamps from Simon Says Stamp April 2018 kit.   The stamp set is called Beautiful Day.  We all draw inspiration and sometimes dip into non-existent wallets because of certain talented ladies in the crafting industry.  Yana Smakula is someone I've recently started watching more of her videos and trying to learn her amazing coloring skills.  She posted a video a week or two ago where she colored on Toned Gray paper with Polychromos by Faber Castell.  I love how this looked!  The gray paper made the colors pop.  Well I don't have the budget to get new pencils, non-existent wallet or otherwise, but I did have a 60% off coupon so the Toned Gray paper went from $11.99 to just under $5. I had to try this...

I stamped the images onto this Toned Gray paper using Smoke ink by Simon Says Stamp.  Then using my Prismacolor pencils, I colored each of the images.  I had used my MISTI to stamp the images to begin with so I left them in my MISTI.  When I was done coloring I put the paper back into the MISTI and over-stamped the images with VersaMark and then added white embossing powder by Nuvo.   I fussy cut out the leaves and the little butterfly.  I cut the focal butterfly using my Silhouette Portrait.

Keeping with the gray color I kept the rest of the card in grays and blacks - this really made the colors pop and command attention.

I love love LOVE this technique.  I actually colored up a bunch more for which I had stamped and heat embossed first.  I found that your pencils need to be really sharp to get into smaller spaces and I ended up picking off the embossed lines.  I have no idea if that was due the pencil, the powder or if my VersaMark pad is getting old.  I fixed them with a white gel pen which works, but....

Now be sure to go visit the design team blogs, too.  They made some really awesome cards.

I'll see you over at the TMS blog.

Believe it or not, I'm actually playing along with a challenge, too.  My Time to Craft challenge #370 is coloring on anything but white.

Oh, really pretty card! I so like the neutral background with the vibrant colors of the butterfly. The background really makes the other colors POP! Fun interpretation of the sketch. Nicely done, gf!
